Start with the regulated institution

Describe what happened, when it happened, the amount or account involved and the outcome you are requesting. Submit the complaint to the bank or regulated provider through a channel listed on its official website, and save the acknowledgement. Keep copies of statements, messages and prior correspondence without sharing sensitive credentials.

Track the response and deadlines

Record the complaint number and dates, then review the institution's response and published grievance process. If it is unresolved, rejected or the applicable waiting period has passed, check the current eligibility and steps for escalating to RBI's complaint mechanism. Requirements and scheme names can change, so use the regulator's current page rather than an old guide.

Submit a focused escalation

Present events in date order, attach relevant evidence and explain what the institution has already said. Avoid sending passwords, PINs or one-time codes; an official complaint process will not need them. RBI's complaints page and CMS information explain the regulator route. A complaint mechanism can review eligible disputes but cannot promise a particular result.
