Treat the UAN as a continuity tool

The Universal Account Number is intended to link a member's EPF accounts across employment, while employers and member records still need accurate details. At a new job, provide the existing UAN and confirm that the new service is associated correctly. Do not create duplicate records simply because an old employer used a different internal identifier.

Check statements and identity information

Use EPFO's official member services to review the passbook or account information available for your establishment. Compare contribution entries, employer details and personal information with your records, allowing for processing timelines. If something is missing or inaccurate, contact the employer or EPFO using official support routes and retain the complaint or correction reference.

Protect credentials and plan transfers

Never share an OTP, password or UAN portal credential with an unsolicited caller promising a withdrawal. A job change can involve transfer, withdrawal or continued membership rules that depend on the circumstances; consult current EPFO guidance before acting. The official FAQ and passbook portal are the right places to verify procedures, not a forwarded message or paid agent.
