Check what others can see

Review whether strangers can view your real name, online status, game activity, friends list, clips or profile details. Use a username that does not expose identifying information. Privacy menus differ among console, PC launcher and individual game accounts, so check each service where you play rather than assuming a single setting covers them all.

Limit contact to the people you choose

Look for options controlling friend requests, messages, party invites and voice communication. Some games support cross-platform interaction, which may introduce additional accounts or settings. Explain privacy boundaries to children and agree how they can report unwanted contact. Use the platform's current guidance to locate controls because labels and features can change after updates.

Revisit after changes

A new game, account migration, software update or changed household preference is a good time to recheck privacy. Keep account passwords and recovery codes separate from public profile information. Platform controls reduce some exposure but do not guarantee that no one can identify or contact a player. Review official safety documentation for the services actually in use.
