A password reused across games, email and shopping can expose several accounts if one service is breached. Use a unique, long password for each important account, ideally stored in a reputable password manager. Secure the email account used for recovery too. Steam's security recommendations and PlayStation's account guidance explain platform-specific protections.
Turn on an extra sign-in check
Where available, enable two-step or multi-factor verification and store recovery codes somewhere private and secure. The exact options differ by platform and country. Never share a one-time code with someone who contacts you unexpectedly, even if they claim to be platform support. Go directly to the official app or website instead of using an unfamiliar sign-in link.
Plan for recovery
Keep recovery email and phone details current, and learn the official account-recovery route before a problem occurs. Avoid third-party offers that promise to restore accounts in exchange for passwords, payment or remote access. If you suspect compromise, use the platform's official support process and secure the email account as well. Support steps can change, so verify them at the source.
