Steam Families is Steam's current collection of family-related tools for sharing eligible games and managing child accounts. The older Family View restrictions have been replaced by Steam Families parental controls, so the legacy guide is mainly useful for understanding the transition. Read Steam's current Family FAQ before reorganizing profiles or expecting a particular game to be available.
Keep individual accounts distinct
Using separate accounts helps each person retain their own profile and allows available family settings to apply more clearly. Protect each login and do not share passwords or authentication codes. Review the current rules about membership, concurrent play and game eligibility, since some titles or situations may not support sharing as expected.
Test before planning around it
Check which games appear for each member and which restrictions are available in your region. Steam's support documentation is the authoritative place to verify current details, including how a family is managed and how Family View works. Do not assume that a previous library-sharing setup behaves exactly like the current Steam Families feature.
